New England Air Systems has completed many projects over the years at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont. Recently we did some custom work to provide their new lab with climate control and constant positive air pressure to aid in their research of core samples of rocks, minerals, and other materials pulled deep from the ocean floors.
The centerpiece of the lab has a vertical fume hood with a scrubber we installed which required a combination of corrosion resistant Halar coated stainless steel ductwork, 316L grade stainless steel, and CPVC ductwork. With the requirement of HEPA filtration, the design plans specified Georg Fischer plumbing materials for pure water (RO) piping, protected water, and acid resistant waste piping connected to the lab equipment and fixtures as well. Siemens VAV boxes with reheat coils were also installed to serve the area from the rooms themselves to the gowning room and storage areas.
