Gifford Health Care, located in Randolph, Vermont, is a 25-bed Critical Care Access Hospital (CCAH) that has been the central hub of high-quality healthcare for the region for over 120 years. As a vital part of Central Vermont, Gifford Health Care ensures top-tier medical services to the community, and maintaining state-of-the-art facilities is essential to their continued success.
The purpose of this specific project was to replace and upgrade 34-year-old HVAC equipment with new systems that not only meet but exceed current hospital safety and energy standards. Our team provided comprehensive services, including HVAC sheet metal work, shop fabrication, mechanical and refrigeration piping, and coordinated efforts with subcontractors for rigging and automatic temperature controls. Our service department was also deeply involved in ensuring everything ran smoothly.
One of the biggest challenges we faced was performing the work without disrupting operations in the Emergency Department—the busiest area of the hospital. This required careful planning, a creative design to fit new equipment within a small rooftop footprint, and close coordination with the construction manager and Gifford’s facilities team. Despite these challenges, the project was completed within a tight two-week window, staying on budget and on time with no interruptions to the Emergency Department’s critical services.
